    Hello all,

Welcome to palungjit.org, where buddhism discussion takes place. Take a moment to introduce yourself to the rest of us here by telling us a little about yourself, and how you got here.

The purpose of this thread is for us to get to know each other, so your introduction can be a simple one or as detailed as you prefer.

One thing I ask of you is for you to at least answer the following three questions somewhere within your introduction:
    1. How did you get here? Were you referred by someone? (please, no "Mr. smarty pants" responses like "typed in URL and hit Enter". You all know what I mean :p )
    2. How were you introduced to Buddhism?
    3. What would you like to achieve from palungjit.org? ( Make friends, learn more about Buddhism, hanging out, ..anything)
    *******************************************************
    I'll start with myself.

My name is Mai. I'm in my mid 20's, currently reside in USA, working in IT Field.
I'm the kind of person you don't really see often, the kind of person you always see sitting doing things my himself.
I don't do a lot of socializing but I do not lack of it. Bottom line is, I, personally enjoy being alone, by myself "most of the time". You usually see things more clearly that way.

I found this website by Google. I wasn't intentionally looking for Buddhism related website, even though Buddhism has been a part of my life since birth. My parent, especially my mother is very religious. The keyword I typed into Googled search was " พลังจิต" (Palungjiti in English...definition: strength, power of mind (in the paranormal, supernatural kind of way), and it happened to be the name of this website. So of course, this website ranked number 1 on Google, I entered this website, and everything just took off from there.

As I mentioned earlier, Ever since I can remember, Buddihsm has always been a part of my life. As far as what I would like to achieve from being here goes, it was all about curiosity for me. I used to take notes, absorbing information this site has to offer from variety of people; including, mind power, spiritual being, supernatural, paranormal, and unexplained phenomenons that could happen when you have a "total" control of your mind, and , practicing it.

A year went by, I ended up turning my vision around and concentrating more on practicing Buddhism, and focusing more on myself. Human being is too physically, mentally, and spiritually complicated for me to spend any more time on other things that are, in my personal opinion, not necessary. I have been dedicating myself to Buddhism, and will do that for the rest of my life; however, I did change my way of absorbing things from this site and will continue to practice Buddhism until I reached "Home".

    Nice to meet everyone. (f)

    Hi all!

    Hello everybody.

palungjit.org has been a number one website on Buddhist section and cultural section in Thailand for a while. Now I am happy that we are going international! So, let's begin with introducing myself to the world.

My name is Toutou (it means puppy in french...as you may also see me around on french board). I am a teacher in a private university on the northern subburb of Bangkok. I am also an architect.

    1. How did you get here? Were you referred by someone? (please, no "Mr. smarty pants" responses like "typed in URL and hit Enter". You all know what I mean :p

I found palungjit.org a few years ago. It was linked to a buddhist website with praying audio (there were only a thousand members registered to Palungjit at that time). And ever since I came here nearly everyday, mainly to read. I was very shy to write something. Then a year later, I discovered that I could register in order to post something on the board :p

    2. How were you introduced to Buddhism?

I am born buddhist. When I was a child, I lived in a country house near a canal in Bangkok. It was my ascestor's tradition to give food to the monk every morning, they came in front of our house by boat.

    3. What would you like to achieve from palungjit.org? ( Make friends, learn more about Buddhism, hanging out, ..anything)

I would like the board to be internationally known, and that we can become a strong buddhist community on the Internet.

    P.S. Hello, Nong Mai (f)

P.P.S. You can also introduce yourself in an unofficial way on the European section http://www.palungjit.org/board/showthread.php?t=62218

    Hello everyone,

My name is Jamie, actually i'm turning 22 this year so i would consider myself a 21 year-old right now ^^". I live in Las Vegas, NV, USA. My first time here is when I was googleling for music. After getting in this website, I realized that there are lots of information on buddhism so I did use some of the provided info to write a paper for my anthopology class. I love to sing and here has a karaoke forum which I enjoy posting my karaoke thingy up. I am a buddhist-born. I've been taught since i was a kid that being a buddhist is not a commitment but it depends on how you want it to be.... i guess you all know what i mean. The reasons for being here is not only wanting to make friends, but also gaining knowledge from people's experiences and helpful resources from the website itself.

    Nice to meet you all.

    Hi K.Toutou

I don't really know about the whole buddhist community because all my friends are either christian or mormon. But I do go to the Thai temple. There are many Thais and Laos resided in Las Vegas so the thai buddhist community has grown a lot in last ten years. Temple's still playing an important role in all traditional events.

II also would like to share with you all, Buddhist community in Anchorage, Alaska, if I may.

Thai temples in Anchorage are often looked and treated as a center point where Thais meet.

Some visit to offer goods to the monk (daily, weekly, or special occasions) because of traditional root that buried deep inside of them. Some will only visit temple when some kind of celebration party takes place and some are here because they have no other place to go.

I'm speaking for myself, when I say I do feels as if I'm not at home even though I've been here since I was a little kid and most often feel lonely even when I'm around my loving family. Why is that?

On another hand, When I step foot into a temple, I feel like I’m home for a split second.

The senses of monks, temples (no matter what they look like, physically), and Buddha's statues make me feel warm, happiness grows within me as if they were treated with superb fertilizer.

Temples automatically reduces my sadness and/or stress level as soon as I enter the premises, amazing how that works.

So when I see temple, I see Thailand, I see His majesty the king, queen, and royal family, I see "Happiness" (every form they come in), I see "home".

It doesn’t do me any good to have found “home” and not able to be there because obstacles created by my confusing daily life are always in my way. I rarely get to visit any temple. I used to say why to myself all the time. One day I came up with an answer, I long to go to temples because they make me feel good but does temple really make me feel good? All those wood, carpet, monks, tree and serenity scene? No. It’s because of Dharma. Believe it or not, Dharma has the most alluring smell in the World to a bug like me.

So I’ve learned to replace everything, which is not necessary, with Dharma. I softly placed Dharma there, so that I can always "be at home” every second of my life.

    Boy, I’m in a sharing mood today, aren’t I?

I like when you describe how you feel when you enter into the temple. it is so beautiful.
